i havent looked around at all to id it. hoping its not 1 of those fire brisstle worms?

it was almost 18" long!

i went to take off my dress shirt(going out) and to get this thing out, but its gone now :(

I don't think that's a fire worm. There are thousands species of worms in the ocean, but if I were guessing I'd say that may be a Eunicid -- because it's large and looks like it has tentacles coming out its head. :eek2:

EDIT: Check out this article

Not just a bristleworm. That, my friend, is a Eunicid worm. Get it out if you can, they can and eat coral. I've pulled a couple out of my tank, and have seen them eat nepthea, zoanthids, palythoas, acans, even my fiji yellow leather.

Does the head look like this?

If you really want to get the willies, go to oregonreef and see the 6 footer that was pulled from Steve Weast's tank.

thesaent14, can you share with the rest of us? I'd love to make a trap too. I caught mine by pulling the rock and squirting San Pellegrino into the holes until it came out.

ok here is my lol 10m before i cach him ones i know where he was then i drop the trap with food and well the rest is history

all i can say is ewwww.

My wife saw some 10-12 inch bristle worms crawling in the tank one night.....the next day i tore the tank down to try to catch all of em......yup its was that bad

aww man jeff, ya it looked JUST like that. i think i read about that worm on his website. he found it in his plumbings i think?

thanks for the link and post too mariner. DEFINATELY looks like one of those worms....

guess the search is on :)

Well, that's a pretty cool trap, but I don't believe that the worm you caught is a Eunicid, and I'm pretty sure that you will not be able to catch one in a trap. They are very long and they usually leave a good bit of their body embedded in the live rock. So while the head may go in the trap, most of the body will not, and they can retract into the LR in the blink of an eye. Weast had to take out the LR home of his Eunicid to get it out. I tried to do the same with mine but was unsuccessful...haven't seen him in awhile, but I'm sure I've still got him...probably several feet long by now.
FWIW,
