AI hydras and SPS

Have one question still unanswered. Is there a disco ball effect? If so is it mild or extreme?

I have zero disco ball... Then again, I am using the combination of both lights. My growth has been stupendous. The hydra52s were a Christmas present to myself Wo it has been two months with them. The sols have been on for a month. I would say that the growth rate of all of my corals has roughly doubled, plus I had growth from corals which I have had for years and had never grown at all. Adding the sols hasn't changed much for growth but I would say it has given me better color because I can run more blue and keep the intensity high. A good portion of the power from the hydra52s is in the white LEDs.

I like my Hydra52 it will give you a little bit of shadowing but it does cover a really good spread I have a 48x30x20 and I get light spillage front and back at 10' awl..I have gotten great growth from it ..im maintaning all colors and its even turning brown corals into colorful ones..ived had mine for a few months iand ived noticed the difference.

I have 1 hydra52 and to vegas

I have had the hydras on my Elos Mini since i put up the tank (Late Sept 2013). I have several SPS frags and have experienced decent growth, I personally feel this has more to do with water parameters than actual light though is contributes.

I feel the colors are Ok. The greens and reds pop but I have a hard time getting the blues to come up.

I have difficulties taking pics under LEDs but here are some of my tank. These are taken with a Canon 7d + 24-70 2.8 L mk I lens. I played around with the colors in light room to make it look more like the way I see them with my eyes so take the images with a grain of salt (no pun intended).

Most of the pics are about a month or so old. I can take some updated pics if you want to see more.

Thanks for the post, I'm curious to compare results with other Hydra users.

Btw, the lights are mounted 7 inches above the water level with a clear mesh over the tank.

What distance are you running them off the water. It appear from most of the tanks I look at that the closer they are to the water the more disco ball affect.

I want run them as close as possible with no disco ball affect.

8" from the water and no disco ball.

Fusion!

Fusion!

I use apex controller with the awm module. I am also one of the lucky people who get to beta test Fusion. Fusion makes it really easy to choose the color you want to run at.

So lucky, been holding off on any complex programming until Fusion is released.
