Aiptasia outbreak!

As everyone said, Peppermint Shrimp are the way to go. There are two very similar species, one of which is a champion aiptasia hunter, the other may or may not go after them. Make sure you get the right one Lysmata wurdemanni

They may go after a few corals if they get hungry and run out of food. They will also work in packs to bring down fish though they are happy to scavenge un eaten fish food. Once the aiptasias are gone, make sure to feed a little sinking food for the shrimp.

One of the tanks I do maintenance for has an extreme aiptasia problem. At a distance I mistook it for hair algae. I am about to introduce 5 shrimp into the system. I'll post photos over the following weeks to show the improvement.

Aiptasia-x and similar paste killers work very well but are expensive, go out of dilution in the bottle quicker than you would like, and if the aiptasia is close to a coral or other polyps like some zoas you will potentially lose part of the colony.

I have a few that have sprung up in my anemone tank, and since I have a few very small RBTAs in there I won't introduce peppermint shrimp. I have never tried injections before but I prefer that to the paste. I'll take some photos of that this week as well.

We will see which works better. :D I'll try to have an update Tuesday with good before pics.
