aiptasia question

is it possible to kill aiptasia by scrubbing it with a brush? if not what are some good products to kill aiptasia? thanks william

Those guys are pretty tough. I had a small rock with about three or four that I took out of the tank. Ran it under cold water then under hot water scrubbed it with a brush and one still lived through all of that. Amazing

If you're scrubbing and leave anything behind, they'll just spread.

Haven't tried it yet but liking the the idea of taking the rock out then blasting the area with a torch, smokin'.

Ive heard you can use lemon juice or vinegar, but I havent tried either. Also, Ive heard you can use strong kalkwasser. I use Joes Juice and it works great, supposedly its just kalk.

i have a peppermint shrimp in my tank but i rarely see him. would it hurt to have 2 peppermints along with a cleaner shrimp? and also has anyone had any problems with using Joes Juice because i have read it can change your pH and alk?

B-ionic #1 in a syringe works great also. it turns white when it touches water so it is easy to see if you get it into the anemone or miss.

I used thick kalkwasser in a syringe this weekend on my moms tank. Killed them almost instantly. And one great thing about it is that you can leave the solution in the syringe for a week or two and just shake it up when you need it.

I use a thick mixture of kalk as well. It is not even necessary to "inject" only to smother the things. I turn off pumps, shoot at the open pest and watch it curl up. I let it all age for 15 minutes before restarting pumps as white blobs of kalk will start to float away and they need a bit of time to neutralize a bit. I have a small air hose siphon I pull the excess (I am sloppy) kako the misses.

NO problem with having more than one peppermint in your tank I have had up to six at one time but if you already have one and only a couple of aptasias, then something like joes juice is your best bet.

I have 3 or 4 aiptasia starting to grow on live rock very close to my RBTA. Sounds like I should be concerned if I aim for the aiptasia and get some on the RBTA. Can anybody confirm, or suggest a method that might be safest under these circumstances? I have B-Ionic already, so if that would work I think I might like to go that way.

I can confirm that lemon juice works. Use it to kill two big aptasia.
The only issue with lemon juice (and yes it works) is the acidity of it can skew the tank chemistry if used on very many of these nasty guys.
