Aiptasia-X : Miracle cure or snake oil?

Old School Reefer
Joe's Juice, Blue Life Aiptasia Control, peppermint shrimp.... you've tried them all to get rid of your Aiptasia problem. But they keep coming back. Last week Red Sea released their new formulation to stop Aiptasia, called Aiptasia-X. They claim it is a unique formula which will ... well, here's their official claim:

Aiptasia-X consists of natural components which form a uniquely thick, adhesive material. Instead of causing the Aiptasia to feel threatened, the unique formula is sensed as food stimulating the anemone to expand and ingest the material. The adhesive form of the treatment makes both the application of the material easy as well as sealing the anemone’s mouth preventing any release of planula. Within minutes of applying the material the Aiptasia will implode, eradicating both the anemone and its planula.

I tried it out yesterday on my 50 gal frag tank. The stuff was less viscous than Joe's Juice, but otherwise seemed similar. Time will tell. So I'll report back every week or so until the jury's makes up their mind!

I was reading about this as well. Fortunately I have a pair of peppermint shrimp who are voracious when it comes to aiptasia. If I introduce a rock with any on it they are gone the next day.

Looking forward to the results though

i have one aptasia right next to my feather duster let us know if it works i may just burry that part of the rock in the sand, they tent to let go of the rock they are on to get to the light then i just pull the little bit of sand out with the aptasia on it

Round 2: May 1

Round 2: May 1

It's May 1, 4 days after the first treatment with Red Sea's new product Aiptasia-X, and I found 15 - 20 Aiptasia... none of them are so small that they could have been the result of settlement of planula larvae from Round 1. And several are medium sized that I know I didn't miss them the first time.

Where did these Aiptasia come from? Short of spontaneous generation or miracle resurrections (Lasarus anemones?) we're talking about survival of Aiptasia-X treatment.

So let's say that a certain percentage of Aiptasia survive each application. That means it's going to take multiple applications to eventually irradicate the problem. I'll do weekly checks and applications and keep you all informed.
