Air in return line

Hello, I have a Red Sea reefer 34 gallon with 9 gallon sump and ato. I am having problems with the level of water getting to low for my return pump. Air is now coming out constantly in my display tank. I am new to hobby, question may make this obvious.

You need to replace water that has evaporated with FRESH RO/DI WATER not saltwater. (Salt nor does anything else evaporate) It's called topping off and many of us will set up an auto top off, ATO, so we don't have to do it manually. Instead we just fill a reservoir when needed.

Sounds like your ATO is not functioning properly. Can you provide a picture.

Thanks for taking the time to reply. After looking more closely at the sump area I realized the water level was way to low. After adding salt water it is working correctly for now. I must keep my eyes on the auto top off to make sure it is working right.
