air tube rotting?

I recently installed an ATO system on my nano tank.

I am using an aqualifter to bring the water from a jug in my stand to the tank.

I used basic airline tubing to run the water. It is working great, except that the tubing that is inside the jug has turned from clear to opague. It appears that the outside of the tubing is not waterproof? Water on the inside of the tube seems to be no problem because the rest of the line is clear.

The line that is inside the jug is somewhat slimy and there appears to be some of the tube disolving into the jug.

This is the only size tubing that will fit the aqualifter. Is there a better quality tubing out there? What should I be using?

Thanks

Vinyl tubing that has been submerged for sometime tends to become discolored, and eventually brittle, but nothing to worry about. The slimy texture you feel is just bacteria build-up, but again harmless.
