Airstones in the tank

I always had airstones/bubble walls in my freshwater tanks to add a little movement to the water (and I just thought the bubbles looked nice). I read different things about having them in saltwater tanks, everything from information on salt creep to "it can kill the fish". So whats the scoop, are they good/bad/indifferent. When I am looking at professional videos on youtube many times I see bubble walls in the tanks.

Other than the salt creep they create, they're ok. In most cases though these are used to provide oxygen, but with salt water aquariums this is achieved through powerful pumps and power heads. The fish and corals we keep from a somewhat turbid environment, so replicating this is kind of important. A bubbler just wouldn't be very practical unless it was for a small QT tank or something. If you just like the looks of the bubbles though, then by all means go right ahead. GL.

Thanks for the reply. I would really hate to get a lot of salt Creep and affect the salinity of my system. I think I will probably hold off.

I used to have bubblers in my tank my hippo tang liked to sleep on top of them but the salt creep it created was enough for me and also the noise is kinda of a pain but if you like it then go for it

I have a friend who has a red led bubbler inside this fake volcano in His tank it looks really cool has some green star polyps growing all over it

Like cloak said, they are not going to give you the water movement that a sw tank needs, that is the job of a powerhead. As far as danger I think sometimes people get them mixed up with microbubbles. That's a different thing where air gets chopped up by a pump and blended into the water as a really fine bubble. Even microbubbles aren't going to "kill your tank" but I think they can be a problem for some delicate critters like sponges. A bubbler isn't going to do that b/c the bubbles are big enough to float right out. My clownfish likes to play around with bubbles so sometimes I run some in the tank for him.

ran a bubbler when i first transferred to salt from fresh and could not believe the salt accumilation
