Very nice, following along![]()
Hey AJ:wave: I haven't checked in for a while but I really like the progress that has happened during my absents and just love the open space for the SPS to grow. Looking great:beer:
Thankslooking great!! AJ:thumbsup:
Nice whats the dims and how long is that light fixture
Plan is to grow them out as much as they can but frag them to keep them from colliding. I want to fill the rock work as much as possible but keep them all small multi branch colonies.Love your tank, are you planning on letting the coral grow out, or making frags pretty quickly once these start growing into each other?
Dude, you have Jawdropper! That's awesome!... Awesome pics as always!
Question about your light again. How far away is your light from the waters surface? I have mine at 10" and I feel like it's too much for my corals. Some can hang at the top but others can't to where I have to move them down. My light schedule is 12 hours x2 bulbs, 7 hours full.
Hey thanks. Yea I am stoked to have gotten a Jawdropper.
Light height is a good question as I am in the process of tweaking that at the moment. Currently its about 14" above my water (I recently raised it from about 9"). I have seen a bit of color and growth improvement since the change. I may go a bit higher as I have a 8 bulb fixture on a shallow tank which provides great coverage of the footprint but is a bit overkill in terms of light. I have never done any PAR measurements unfortunately.
I only run an 8 hr cycle. x2 for 8 Hours, x8 for 6.
Hope this helps.
Stunning tank as always AJ
Cool, mine at 10" was bleaching out my Rommel's Rainbow a little so I moved it down and raised the light to 12" a few days ago. We'll see how it goes.
Thanks!
Hey AJ, how's the lock on your front door? You better beef it up as your tank is quickly filling with some very cool corals. Seriously, nice collection you've got going there. Can't wait to see all these grow out.
Hey AJ, what salt brand are you using? ... I've got questions for days for you! haha
I used to use Reef Crystals but I recently switched to Red Sea Blue Bucket. I am very happy with the switch. It's far closer to NSW levels which is ideal for ZeoVit and ULNS. Things have been much more stable since the change, although I always mix new salt water for at least 24 - 48 hours before adding to the tank, this blue bucket seems to mix up within minutes.
Keep em coming, happy to answer anything if I can.
Good to hear about the red sea salt. I am using the coral pro. Curious though, why the blue bucket over the coral pro?
btw, Red sea recommends not to mix longer than 2 hours. Here a video link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UlIHJ02NaKk . In the comments section of that video, Red Sea left this as a comment: "The maximum we recommend mixing is 2 hours ,it is important not to mix for more than 4 hours, you can use your mix as soon as it is clear (30 minutes to 2 hours) and the pH is stable between 8.2 and 8.4". Have you noticed it getting cloudy when mixing it for a long period?
I think that is only valid for the Pro bucket. I also use the blue bucket which is cheaper and better balanced; I mix it for 2, 3 or even more days without any issues at all. The Pro one is artificially saturated and therefore should be used as soon as it gets mixed so that it does not precipitate.
