The Alaska SeaLife Center, a non-profit organization in Seward, Alaska, is accepting application packets for internship opportunities in the aquarium department. The Alaska SeaLife Center is dedicated to understanding and maintaining the integrity of the marine ecosystem of Alaska through research, rehabilitation and public education. This is a full time position for twelve weeks available year-round. Duties include assisting in the daily care and maintenance of the Center’s fish and invertebrate collection in a research oriented setting.

Requirements: Applicants must be currently enrolled in an accredited college or university with a primary area of study in the field of Fisheries, Marine Biology, Oceanography, Aquariums or other life science related fields. Recent college graduates within the last two years may also apply.

Duties Include:
• Assisting in the care of Alaska fishes, invertebrates and algae in exhibit settings and holding tanks.
• Daily diet preparations and feeding diets to marine organisms.
• Routine cleaning of exhibits, food prep room and service areas.
• Assisting aquarium staff in development and installation of new aquatic displays.
• Monitoring system conditions and water quality testing.
• Assisting the aquarium staff in collecting specimens in the field.
• Learning taxonomic identifications of marine specimens of plants and animals.
• Assisting aquarium staff in development of aquatic database.
• Performs other duties relating to the Center’s goals and mission statement as required.

This is an unpaid position, housing and/or a food stipend are available for interns participating in our intern program. Interns are responsible for all travel expenses.
