algae bloom?

Both my friend and I upgraded our lights from PC to MH and t-5. We are currently having a problem with green algae on the glass and sand. Is this usual after upgrading lights? we also took out the carbon in our filters around the same time we put the lights on, should we put the carbon back in? why is this happening and what would be the best route to fix it? thx in advance

It isn't unusual at all. There may, like Jaymann suggests, be some available phosphates and you should test to see if there are and if there are, address that issue. Meanwhile, I'd increase water changes with a know good quality water source. But, it's certainly a matter that can be resolved fairly easily. However, getting green algae on the glass is something that you may have to deal with for a long time no matter how well you maintain your reef.

That's been my experience.
