Algae control

I have a 55 gal with a Gold Spot eel and a bursa trigger. The guy at the LFS said that I could put a yellow-eyed kole tang in there to control the algae. I was quite happy to hear this as that is IMO the most amusing fish to watch. I have a feeling though that the trigger would give him a hard time. Any recommendations?

Improve you water quality (increased skimmer, carbon, phos spong, increase water changes) and add a big clean up crew - the triger will nail some snails and hermits, but if you have lots of LR a good deal will survive. If you don't have LR - add some.

Yeah, I took my skimmer off for a little bit. I bought a SeaClone 100 off of ebay but it only came with the skimmer and the maxi-jet. No connection between the two. Therefore i had to go to the hardware store to ghetto rig the device. I didn't like how it looked so i took it off and am going to buy the replacement parts from Marineland. I only have a little red algae but patches of green are showing up in larger numbers (on rocks only). I would love to put the kole tang in but am unsure as to how wise that would be.

if you can afford a better skimmer get one, seaclones suck IMO, there are some good hob out there but that is not one of them. there are some mods you can do to them to get them to work better but i would just get a new one
