algae cycle

how long after setting up the tank until the algae goes away? i used r/o water and all,a month later i got a little algae here and there not bad,but i heard that this would happen and go away,i got 16 snails eating away but still not enough

It takes some time...I don't think that there is a specific time table for it. Just maintain good water parameters and flow, and let your clean up crew do their job. Patience!

patience it is then,its just hard setting up a nice tank and having crap all over it already.

Ya, mine went right away after i did a few water changes using RO water.

Flow, flow, flow will help make the algae go.

i think i also read somewhere that if you have poor water circulation that slow moving areas leftover food can get caught up and also create algae spots. But since i added hang on fuge with chaeto and red mangroves and adjust powerhead for better circulation. Algae problems started going away. I've seen nice tanks that run only skimmers and a fuge or just skimmers. Live rock and skimmer supposed to take care of tank as for as biological filters (live rock) and skimmers for waste removal.
