Algae from the Ocean?

I was checking out some of the tidepools off by like malibu and they had alot of cool macro algaes.

I was wondering if you could like put Green Algaes like ulva in the home aquarium or it a bad idea?

They also had some cool purplish/pinkish algae, could you put that in the home aquariums?

Is it ok to feed tangs these macro algaes?

I wouldn't. That stuff is in water temperatures of 55 deg vs. high 70s in your tank. I would probably just melt away and foul up your tank. Besides...we should just enjoy the tidepools for what they are, not take stuff from them.

i can back up the melting away in our tanks. I collected some once and it did not survive for more than a week. Loaded up the water with nitrate once it started to decay. Don't chance it.

oooh ok, yeah good point, it would probably just melt away, what about chopping it up and giving it to tangs or other fish that are herbivores?

I mean its gotta be good right?

taking anything from the tidepools is illegal plus there are parasites all over it very small parasites that are not found in the aquarium but once introduced they will reproduce like mad and wreak havoc on your fish and inverts

If they don't eat it, you'll have to pick out each individual piece one by one or just wait till it all melts away and watch your tangs go through shock as your nitrates rise beyond your worst nightmares. Then you'll have to do a water change, clean out your skimmer, sump, substrate to get anything you might have missed... etc. If you have a lot of time to kill and like headaches, go for it :)

ok, cool guys, i just thought it might be a good idea, but then if no one else is doing it their is probably a reason. thanks alot.
