Algae help.

About a month ago I switched my orbit marine light out for two black box lights on my 75 gallon. Since then the last few weeks I have had an increase in a brown sort of slimy looking algae that in the last few days has slowly grown over many of my corals and now several of them aren't even opening up. What do I do? My clean up crew has slowly died over the last six months since my hermits have eaten most of them and I do have more on order to arrive next week. Any other thoughts. Are my corals dead since the algae is growing on them? Help please.

i need some tank params. ammonia, nitrate, nitrite, phosphate, ph, alk, cal, mag would greatly help. how long is your phyto period? that may have something to do with it.

What kind of corals do you have? if they're a bit hardier i would consider doing blackout for a day or two, if not then maybe just minimal light. IT might also mean that your ammonia is high, so thus, you should do a water change.

First, if i were you:
i'd physically take the algae out first
then i would do a water change
after, i'd leave the lights off.

the picture isn't quite clear, it may look like hair algae or cyano.
Other than that, you have to think about why your clean crews are dying, somethings not good in your tank.
may have to tests stuff, temp; nitrates, etc.
