Can anyone ID this algae? It is only in one of my refugium stock tanks. It is not in my tank or other stock tank.

That is grape caulerpa. The things I know that will eat it:
1. scribbled rabbitfish [doubtful around lps] max size 10".
2. tripneustes gracillis, the hairy colored pincushion urchin: not your common pincushion, nor in the same family. Coral-safe. Putty your rocks, but a great algae eater, of all types.
3. some tangs. Be sure which.

It could be grape culerpa, but I can't tell if they are rounded or more flat...if flattened some, it is more likely "Mermaid's Cup" (sorry, I don't know the sp. name). I've got it in my refugium too, so I hope its not bad!

edit: late in reply again....oh well

The green is certainly part of the Caulerpa racemosa family, but I think Bass is curious about the low growing red macroalgae that is shown in several of the pictures. I've had it and tried to propagate it without much luck. Was never able to get a more precise identification than possibly a Botryocladia species, which I dont trust that designation at all.

Samala, you are correct. I am asking about the Red calidioscope looking bubble algae. It is not just red. It has a creme or white color to it also. The other is grape caulerpa, I know what that one is as it grows really well. Its the red bubble stuff that is curious to me. Thanks to all that has replied so far.
