This stuff takes over my tank if I dont prune it often. I have tried every type of algae eating invert but nothing touches it. My tank is only a 45 gallon so Tangs are out. Help!!!

I have run Phosban, done many water changes and have now taken all my fish out and put them in another tank so there is no food entering. It still thrives after a few weeks.

Any help would be appreciated.

Bryopsis.

Yucky stuff, better go kill it and get the tweezers out.
Lack of PO4 is not going to stop it.

See other threads on the species. Some hints.

Noxious weed. I nail it before it gets going.

Thanks. Its already in full swing unfortunately. It only grows on certain pieces of rock. Other pieces are totaly clean, just purple coralline.

Is this one of those things that just disappears one day or am I in it for the long haul? My glass needs cleaning every few weeks so I know the water is fairly low in PO4. Plus the fact theres no fish so food has been going in for a while now.

Some have claimed that it could help to raise the KH, and lately there was some threads about high Mg should kill Bryopsis :)

Try to search and as already suggested begin manual removal.

Does this stuff sporulate? I've had something similar in my tank and it has "crashed" twice. No significant damage to anything, and cleared up with carbon.

My pincushion urchin seems to enjoy it, whatever it is.
