algae id- red turf? please help!

I've been trying to ID this algae on and off for months- any help would be appreciated. I wish the photo was more crisp, but I would describe it as a red/brown in color, very tough and difficult to remove, the strands are about 1/2" long max. The strands are either single or branch down low then grow out. Under magnification the strands are actually a bit hairy, but I wouldn't call them feathered.

Thanks in advance- I want to get rid of this stuff!!!
