algae in my refugium

I have got a lot of algae growing in my refugium. I know that is one of the benefits of a refugium, but I am wondering if I should let it continue to grow or pull out as much as I can? I keep the refugium lights on 24/7 to allow the algae to grow down there instead of my display tank. I even have cheato in there as well, but it is covered with hair algae. What do you guys think?

I say leave it, it's better to have it in the refugium than the display tank. It will probably go away with time (as long as water quality is good). You may want to try a phosphate reactor as well.

Yeah, most of the algae has died from my display tank, but my refugium is covered. I am also running a phosban reactor, which has helped a lot.

If you don't ever remove some of it out of the fuge, how are you getting nutrient export? I've always cut it back some but left enough spead throughout that it will quickly grow back.

I always cut my caulerpa down to about one inch, and pull out all chaeto except three tennis-ball size clumps, which i hold in place with bamboo skewers stuck thru the chaeto and into the sand

never had an algae bloom. I run lighting 12on/12off
