Algae issue... Please help...

Hello guys,

My tank is already 1 month, i just getting my tank setup. last 2,3 days i just noticed this hair algae. Someone help me how to remove the algae?

Not too much you can do about this GHA and other types of algae you will get over the next few months. It's all part of new tank ugglies that they all go through.

What you can do is get two Mexican Turbo snail, it will eat 100x it's weight in GHA. Don't buy anymore than one or two because once it's gone there will not be much for it to eat. Yout tank should be able to support one of them long term. Unless your LFS will sell you a few of them and then take the back after the GHA is gone. I'd still keep one or two around as they're good cleaners of algae, Especially GHA

I have a yellow tang which loves hair algae, but it's luck of the draw whether they'll eat it or not

Is this the same LFS that advised you to put anemones in a one month old tank? Personally I would look for another LFS that is honest. They're hard to find but still out there.

I'd like you to remember this: "LFS is out to make money off of you, we're here to help you be successful with your tank"

You may be better off in the long run buffing up your clean up crew. They will help keep it clean in the long run and pay for themselves

they weren't wrong about phosguard aiding in reducing algae growth, HOWEVER, like Dkuhlmann said, the only cure for the new tank uglies is time and a continued regular maintenance schedule. A couple of snails and or hermits will help keep it in check in the meantime. Do not buy the phosguard.

+1 on what dkhulmann said. I've got 2 in a 55 gallon that I've had almost 2 months and the GHA started to get pretty bad from 3-4 weeks and even some velvet algae too but the snails had almost the whole tank clean in a week

I agree with Dave. Give your tank time to mature and sort itself out. Marine tanks are not known for instant gratification.

Take back the anemone he's just going to die in your tank. Anemones like a mature tank at the very very least 6 months and honestly I think that's even too young. As for your algae issue, you're over feeding or not following proper water changes or a mix of both. You should have let your tank mature a few months before adding your life stock. Nothing good ever happens in this hobby fast.

Hermit crabs will clean all thst up, just getva few if the tank isnt that big.

agree with all the above but like to add that best if you don't add anything products to your tank to alter the water chemistry without knowing what your test result are and what you target level is.

So while you give your tank time to mature, keep reading threads and decide what type of corals you would like to keep and what nutrition, water chemistry, light and space they need.



PS manually remove as much algae as you can
