Algae issue

I have algae over taking my tank right now. I was told it could be dinoflagellates and was told by LFS to raise KH or alkalinity and do water change (my old water was reading 40 TDS) with my new RODI unit making 0 TDS water. I see no considerable improvement and it's been around 2 weeks since I had this algae. I never seen it grow so long! It looks like I may have more than one algae in the tank but idk. I'm new to the hobby and could use some advice. I have a 40 G nano reef tank that's an all in one. I have a skimmer, fuge, CPE and purigen in the tank but it's not helping at all. Want to know when it's time to abandon ship after spending thousands on this tank.... I have coral, fish and anonmies in the tank. It's really sad to see the tank like this. Any advice would help!

That looks like dinos too me also.

Personally, I would do a 3 day blackout of your tank. Cover it with a blanket and turn off all of the lights. Your coral should be just fine for three days without the light, and the dinos should die off. That's what worked best for me, but I was also syphoning out as much as I could when I could.

I have that as well in my new tank, I am told it is cyano and common in new tanks. I just used a turkey baster and it blows right off. Caught some with my net, the rest disappeared. If you have any Zoas make sure you blow them off sooner as mine didn't appreciate being covered and my one frag is recovering because I took too long to clean it. .

Don't abandon ship. Unfortunately it is part of the hobby. It will go away, your tank will mature, you will gain knowledge, and your reef will grow

Manually remove as much as you can and keep up with water changes. Take it slow and be patient!! That is key in this hobby.

I am just curious as to what water had the 40 TDS?

Is it tap, RO/DI or your saltwater?

First suggestion I don't see a big clean up crew get a bunch of snails that can flip themselves over to go to work on the algae , 3 days lights out and run toward phosphate your tank will be back to new
