Seeding Marine Pure Gems

Hi,

I want to seed the Marine Pure gems to get it ready for a 40 gallon tank.

My 15G AIO tank, sump area is already full.

If I just put the gems(in mesh bag) into the water, will it seed same nitrifying bacteria? Or it is not same as in sump area with higher water flow?

How long does it take? 1-2 months?

Thanks

I read the larger marine pure blocks where water moves through it slower is good for nitrite removal, anaerobic zones vs. faster flow gems. So it is kind of confusing.

Like sand bed is anaerobic for denitrifying vs. faster flow through bio media for ammonia removal.

Good to know they are same bacteria.
Always thought they were different strains for different purpose.

Thanks.

Clarification, what I meant is it is the same bacteria in the sump as in the display tank. There are different bacteria, ones for breaking down ammonia into nitrite, ones for breaking down nitrite into nitrate and others.

That is confusing. lol
Same but different...

Regardless, placing media in display will house both versions? If yes, good enough for me. :-)

All kinds are carried by the water and even in the air around us. That is why even if you don't add any bacteria a tank will cycle with time.
No they don't begin growing actively until they find a good place they like but they can spread through water flow. Some snails keep water in their shell. The thin film of water a fish comes in when you remove it from a bag and release it. There are many ways for bacteria to get around.
