Well, here's one you don't see everyday.

Anyone have a big clump of bryopsis algae they'd like to give me? Would like to culture some for my lettuce hares since they completely devoured the patch I used to have.

Thanks!

Johnny/Morgan

I don't have any bryopsis (knock on wood), but if you're willing to try it, I'd be curious to see if they eat this macroalgae (Dictyota).

It's not a plague, grows pretty slow, but becomes annoying because nothing in my tank eats it. Julian Sprung recommended a longspine urchin, but I've avoided those for a couple of reasons.

Let me know, I could bring a piece of rubble with some of this attached to the meeting. If they eat it, we'll both be happy. :D

That stuff tried to take over my frag tank. I got a two barred rabbit fish and it took care of it.
I think it is too hard for lettuce nudis.

Jeff Barred Spinefoot- Rabbitfish are generally reef-safe if they are well fed.
I saw one at Reeflife last week.

Correction! rabbit fish are not generally "reef safe" this is mainly because too often they develope a taste for zoanthids and other polyps, to supplement their diet, I don't have any expensive zoos so wouldn't mind putting one in my tank but, if you do, I will strongly advice you against it.

U r right but as a generalization they are not . Just like angels and your beloved copperband. Hit or miss right.
I would never ever put one in my tank either. But as u see Andrea has one w/o problems.

Well, this thread kind went crazy! Jeez

Still looking for a big clump of bryopsis. Would like a big patch of hair algae too actually.

The lettuce hares won't eat that stuff Jeff. My bali monsters might. I'm sure a sailfin tang would eat it, I remember my poor dear Sally used to.

Democrats rule, thppbbtt!
