I mag float my tank about every night, but I cannot seem to get the hard grown algae off the glass, even with the scraper. Does anyone have a suggestion to get that off so I can have a nice clean glass aquarium again??
A razor blade to remove the coralline. Cleaning the glass normal and everyday is best for easier cleaning but if the glass builds algea real fast on the glass then flow could be low.Flow is a great algea deterrent.
I thought about a razor blade as soon as i pushed send. go figure. I clean the glass every day with that huge mag float, and I have A TON of flow all around the tank. I think its just build up. I'll try the blade. Thanks.
You state 1xwave maker, what does this mean?
Then you say hard algea without stating coralline.
You come here for help but then back off on questions.
This works much better with answers more specific then "i have good flow" Ill bet my tank your flow is lacking. I only ask because i want to help.
I have a Mag 9 in my sump that circulates my entire tank very well. I added a koralia power head to add flow toward the other end.
I have coralline, but I am speaking a spotty green algae that is sticking to the glass.
Im not trying to back off, I was just stating that I thought of the razor blade after i posted my question, and i know that the flow is not the problem. If I had more flow it would fly out of tank. thanks for the help though. I am always up for any tips and tricks.
You want atleast 20 times turnover. Tank size times 20 equals 1500. A K4 is 1200 and you probably have a 2 or 3 . Your return doesnt count,it may help but not much and if the return is high then the fuge or sump cant work as well, you want around 100 GPH thru the sump for best results and then you loose close to 3/4's of the returns actuall flow from pipeing and distance.
Low flow effects much more then algea on the glass.
Sorry if i kinda went off subject but if you fix this then you will never know why i asked and if you dont then you will in time.
Well my return pumps a ton out so if that doesn't count and its too much......then should I get another pump for the return. What do you suggest I use to get the flow that counts? I'd really like not to have a bunch of power heads in the display. Could I rig up a closed loop with a mag___pump?
Yea powerheads can be ugly but essential. Koralias can be usefull but limited. I would invest in 2 good powerheads that combined meet or beat the minimum. Then proper placement.
The amount of flow returned depends on distance from source and how strait the shot is. 5 feet to the left level would be crazy flow and 5 feet below with bends could still be low.
