Algae on my candy cane coral

I have had a candy cane coral for a few weeks now and it has algae growth on it and I cannot figure out a way to get it off. I tried to pull it off as it seems to be hair algae but it does not come off, at least not very much. My snails do not seem interested in cleaning it (they mostly stick to the walls). I bought an algae blenny, unfortunately it died in a recent tank crash and I felt it to be prudent to wait before adding any more animals to my tank. I'm looking for suggestions to solve this problem. Thank you.

A few questions, how big is your tank?, how frequently & how much water do you change? How about some water params.?

Is the algae on the polyp/tissue or the skeleton?

I cannot really tell if it is on the tissue or on the skeleton because it is my first LPS coral and I am not sure what to look for.

Also I am not looking for advice on how to keep it from growing, I am looking for advice on how to get rid of the stuff that is already there.

do you have a picture of this algae? It might by bryopsis, which in that case your CUC would not be interested. If it is, you may have to dose some Kent tech-M to get rid of it.

Why not choke it out naturally? Put some attractive macro algae in your tank, up your skimming, do a water change, and give it a few weeks.

I was thinking maybe your nitrates and/or phosphates could be a bit high, which gives the algae food to consume & grow...Bringing those levels down , if they're too high, would eventually get rid of the algae.

Water changes will bring those levels down.

The skeleton, hard part of the coral, may have some algae on it which won't harm it. The algae on the fleshy part may be a problem.
