Algae on Setosa: how to remove

it grew on a dead part of the coral. tried scraping off but just comes back. wouold I need to try and scrape it all completely off? any other options? I couldn't dip this in peroxide could I ?

I think the problem of why algae is growing on your coral should be addressed first. It's likely that part of the coral died and the recessed part is always prone to algae growth. However I have never seen byropsis like that on part of the skeleton. Looks like you have some near the coral too, perhaps try ripping those pieces away to give the coral a buffer zone. Any idea on nutrient levels and if they are elevated what the cause is?

Can you remove the coral? If so, use tweezers and a soft toothbrush to free as much as you can. I find it easier to do while underwater, so use a container or tank water to do so in. Then use a cue tip with peroxide on it, just dab it on the areas where algae growth is taking place and do your best not to get it n the flesh. Look into Justin Credables peroxide techniques if your a little worried about doing so, some great info out there.

Sorry, peroxide part should be done out of the water, just removing the algae I find easier while under water, as it 'floats' and doesn't drape all over the live parts of the coral

awesome idea..thanks.. yeah part of the coral was killed when another coral either touched it or fell on it i cant remember happned few months back.

You can try by turn off the pumps. Then using the coral cutter and nip out the part with algae on it. The fresh grow back in couple weeks since from what I saw, they're not that big. Also try to control your nutrient.
Adding a yellow tang also help
