algae on SPS

On the right side top of my 75 gallon tank, I have 4 pieces of SPS - two millepora, an acro echinata and an acro something or other. A little piece of on the bottom of one of the millis is somewhat white, but most of it and the other milli are showing nodules for growth and extending their polyps, at times. The echinata acro has great polyp extension and the other sometimes. I have learned not to blast the SPS directly with the flow from power heads (a vortec, the return on an Iwaki 820 and 2 hydros that are 800+ gph per). I have rearanged the powerheads so tha the flow kind of smashes in the middle of the SPS and diffuses. Is that standard procedure? Finally, it seems I get a bit of algae forminbg once in a while on some tips of the SPS (not much). I lightly brush with a toothbrush and it is gone.

I am getting a phosban reactor in the next day or two. mY nitrates are as low as the reading will go (under 10). Is there anything I can do to stop the algae spots? Thx.

If algae continues to grow where the tissue blew off, sometimes it is best to cut/frag the coral below this affected area. The algae can often regrow faster than the coral's tissue, but a fragmented coral seems to avoid algae adhesion in my experience.

Just my $.02 :)
