Algae Problem

Hi,

I have a persistent Algae problem. I have a 120 Gallon Reef Tank with Refugium. My Phosphates are at 0 and have been there for several weeks though were high about 3 weeks ago. Since then I have been feeding very minimally and watching the levels. Nitrites and Nitrates are at the lowest level also according to tests.

The LFS said the Algae will soon starve but it just keeps on trucking. I have a Current Outer Orbits light fixture with twin 130 watts PC 420nm X 10,000 k daylight bulbs and 2 X 130 watt Metal Halides. The PCs stay on for about 8 hours, the Halides about 4 in the middle of that.

The algae really prospers under the halides as I can see it producing prodigious oxygen bubbles. It is all over the sand also.

I have a bunch of Turbos, narcissus, hermits, and it does not appear to stop it.

Please what advice can you give me?

How long has your tank been setup? Are you using RODI water for top off? Can you give all of your tank parameters?

Looks more like cyano to me. Get a turkey baster and see if it blows off or sucks off.
