OK.. i made the mistake of starting a 36 gallon tank with tap water and a conditioner. i cycled the tank, added two false clowns and a coral banded shrimp,1 emerald crab and a small clean up crew.i have 50 ibs of live rock also. i use a seaclone100 skimmer and i just bought a rena xp2 canister filter waiting to arrive. basically for activated carbon media. tanks been running now for about 4 months anyways, i have algae growing like crazy!!!! on the glass on the sand bed on the live rock! i want to start using RO/Di water from my lfs but what should i do to get rid of the algae first. my plans were to do a 60 percent water change with the RO/Di water add the filter with the activated carbon and just keep that up every week or 2 till it gets better. any suggestions help me out...?

Keep on doing water changes with the RO/DI. 25% every 2-3 days for a week or 2. Test for phosphates. Might not be a bad idea to get a phosban reactor to export phosphates. The seaclone skimmer is not a very good skimmer. There are other alternatives for around the same price that will perform alot better. What are the current water levels?

Nitrate
nitrite
phosphates
ph
calcium alk
?

But could be another problem like low flow or overfeeding or improper working skimmer. Nice to be able to rule out water supply unfront.
Do a 25% water change with RO water then 10% weekly for a month or two. In most cases tap water problems take more time to cause problems. Also in newly cycled tank blooms are common.
