Algae Problems

Hello everyone,

I've had this 24 Aqua Pod for almost a year now, and I have this awful algae/plant problem.

I don't know what inverts I need to buy to help control it.

Here is a picture of my problem.

I only have two clownfish. I have a few turbo snails and hermit crabs.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Jeff

Halimeda algae (green stuff on the right) can usually be controlled by plucking it. It doesn't stand up to that very well and I've usually been able to get rid of it that way. As far as the other spaghetti looking stuff on the rocks, I don't know exactly what you've got there, so maybe somebody else can chime in.

Ok, thanks. I'm more concerned about the red, bushy algae. I try to get rid of it by pulling it out, but it always comes back.

I don't have much. I have 3 snails and probably 5 blue legged hermits. I had more snails, but a few of them bit the dust on my return pump.

I would put 2 dozen astrea snailsin with about 3 dozen blue leg hermits and about 4 or 5 emerald crabs. This may sound excessive but trust me the results will be dramatic and rapid. Look at the clean up crews that are online and you will see that those numbers arent all that excessive.

Yeah make sure you cut back on the feeding and the light some if you can. I fought a two month battle with hair algae and wanted to pull my hair out. I finaly starved in to death with no light for two weeks but, I had the advatage of a second tank to put my corals in while I did that. The advice on the clean up crew can only help you. Wish you the best.
