Algae Reactor Question

I have been exploring algae reactors. I was wondering if you might get similar results by just putting the macro algae in the sump and using a light down there, I don't have room for a separate refugium. Seems it would be cheaper than a dedicated reactor. What's your experience?

Sure.. you can absolutely create a macro section in your sump and get "similar" results to an algae reactor..

This is what I did for some time. After a while the macro and other green stuff grew all over the sump. Problem was the light spread over more than just the area i designsted for the macro section.
