Algae Turf Scrubber Input

I've been reading a lot about algae turf scrubbers and think I want to implement one into my tank. I know there are thousands of threads, forums, etc dedicated to ATS but I was wondering if anyone here has one?

I've been going back and forth on whether I should try a waterfall (water driven) or upflow (air driven) style scrubber. Any input?

I'm working with a 20 gallon high sump so I don't have a ton of room.

Also, lighting....? LED's (red, 660nm) or CFL's? I know the pros and cons but was hoping someone here had some experience with it. CFL's are of course cheaper, but add a lot of heat. Any ideas on a cheap LED build or fixture?

Thanks!!

ive heard a few people in roanoke have some. i have no (erm, deliberate at least) experience with them, but have been thinking of making one for my tank.

i like the waterfall with leds, tho i honestly havent read much about them, so might be completely wrong on why i like that.

i like waterfall because, at least from my FW planted days, CO2 is a big growth limiter, so with the waterfall, the algae is exposed to much more air to pull CO2 from. and led means no bulb replacements and i like to be lazy.

i'm thinking of making one that is a slope rather than a straight waterfall. something like a tray mounted at a 30degree angle or something, lit from just the top. less noise, less splashing, and i can mount it up above the sump out of the way.
