stickhead n chalice freak
ok so i am not exactly new to the reef scene.... actually i have had my tank set up for years, but this is new to me....... recently i have moved and now i have had a breakout of some algae..... now this isnt green hair algae or red slime.... this is a maroon in color and very short... it is tight nit and is taking over all nof my coralline.....you cant blow it off with a turkey baster, but it does scrape off with a tooth brush...i need help to get rid of this before it takes over my tank........ here are my tank perameters:
Nitrates,nitrites,ammonia=0
dKh=approx 10
calcium= 420-435ppm
pH=8.3

my set up is as follows:
55 gal tank w/20gal overflow
ocean runner 6500
3 aquaclear 70 powerheads
4 110 watt VHOs(2 super actinics 2 actinic white)
3 moon lights(blue)
65 watt 50/50 pc(for sump)
cpr insump protien skimmer
2 little fishes phosphate reactor
emperor 400 filter
approx 65lbs of rock
75lbs of sand between tank and sump

i have lots of sps, lps, 3 large clams,several zoos, a couple leathers and a few gorgonians..... i have a purple tang, yellowtail blue tang, 4 line wrasse, target mandrin, mated pair of maroon, and a royal gramma plus several blue leg crabs. a few peppermint shrimp, a cleaner shrimp and a couple small turbo snails and margarita snails........

please help me to identify this and get rid of it.... what will eat it? what does it come from? HOW DO I GET RID OF IT?

thanks for youe time and help in advance,
shane

at this point i am not totally sure....... the only reason i dont think so is that it doesnt jus blow off.... it comes off with a tooth brush........ at this point i will try anything.... what do you have to try?

I can't see it in the pic but it sounds like the fiberous red algea and I don't know the scientific name for it but it is truely a PITA. My tangs finally killed it off in my tank.

i have read to turn my lights off for three days..... will this hurt my sps, lps, or clams?..... what about the moon lights....sump lights? what about feeding?
help
