AlgaeFix Marine to control Hair Algae

I would use it for now to collect the algae debris both dead and live. Perhaps using a larger 100 micron sock would help. Decreasing flow through them can help.

Is there a negative effect from running carbon + phosban + dosing algae fix?

I'm suffering from a large portion of short hair algae on my rocks, that even though I pick and pick it at it seems to come back.

Not a good sign to have a fowl odor to tank water. Most likely due to algae braking down. Check your ammonia level and if there is any there take action by treating tank with appropriate product. Ammonia is extremely toxic to fish. This is why it is important to remove algae especially as it brakes down. Running GAC, Increased water circulation of surface, running filter bags, changing 30% of the water will all help. ;)

Okay i will do as u said but the smell is like a dead fish i mean i have the same smell when an earlier fish died in my tank. I mean u know the smell when a fish dies last night in ur tank and u remove it next morning. Hair algaes are growing like usual as they grow after 2 weeks of cleaning rocks. I dont see any change on my algae.

I will post ammonia result tonight.

None that we have seen so far. Hobbyists have continued to run carbon, GFO & dose carbon sources with no noticable effects as long as the AF will kill your algae specie. :)

I would stop dosing AF for now until you get the water in proper condition. Water changes will help.

ok, dose 2 went in this AM, I notice a little die off in some spots already, but not en masse yet. (keeping fingers crossed)

My ammonia is 0 ppm. The tank smell has gone itself, might be activated carbon was running and did the job. What should i do now? My tank is well aerated though.

I have a few rocks that are growing the dreaded HA! I put my first dose in tonight and hopefully this will take care of it without any negative effect on any of my SPS/LPS corals! Should I continue to run my skimmer?

Tyler,

Thanks for sharing your experience with AF. You should continue to run your skimmer. It will help remove organic debris from your water collumn. ;)

Hello guys, well i was reading all of this, but i did not find an answer of my question, i had some cyano and i won my war over it but after that i got around the 90% of my tank covered by GHA, it killed my frogspawn and its totally incrusted in my candycane, well yesterday i gave the 11 dose to my tank, now i have around of the 98 % of my tank algea free i have a minor cyano outbreak and two ceriths dead not sure if it is a direct connection.

Now the problem, i was reading that after the 10 dose there is some problem with the inverts, but my candycane is still cover by GHA in fact the biggest last spot is on it, so that its why i dont want to stop dosing.

i have a derasa and its my master pice so do you think my clam could resist more doses? And why do you think i have not been able to kill the GHA on the candycane? I have sprayed it directly and there is no changes it is green and growing well not very fast but its still growing, i am afraid that if i suspend the AF i going to have a major outbrak again, so maybe someone with more experience could put me in the right direction

thanks a lot for any help

With no ammonia and odor problems, I would resume. ;)

Last night I just brushed my rocks inside the tank with a new toothbrush. Some Hair algae came out easily some didnt. The tank was looking pretty muddy.

Algaefix Freshwater is now converting most of my brown algae to green algae and on a couple of rocks deep brown/maroon algae(might be cyanos). Though I am finding the growth of hair algae a bit slower than earlier as now i also keep my window close for light issues.

I gave 7th dose of AF last night. Should i continue dosing or should i stop?

Tomorrow would be 15% water replacement. I will try to scrub the rocks and then siphon the water.

I continued dosing AF for quite some time after 10 doses. The only negative effect I saw was it killed my chaeto. My clams did fine.

Why it kills the algae on rock etc. and not your candy cane is a good question.

I would continue. The maroon color could very well be cyano, which AF may not control.

The Third dose went in this morning and I will post more updated pictures in a few days. So far I have seen no bad effect on any corals or fish.

Updating pictures. This is after the 2nd dose took effect. Before and after pictures.

Thanks Cliff, believe it or not they were all shot with my cell phone ;) No editing other then cropping and resizing them. Happy as hell with AF so far at this point.

The only downsize I seen so far is the little bit of smell caused from using AF. But well worth it for the results.

I did have one question, I have a very powerful skimmer on this 90 gallon. Did you skim wet or a dry skim? The first few days I was skimming very wet. But now I dialed back my skimmer to a more dry skim and waiting to see some results.
