AlgaeFix Marine to control Hair Algae

I'm going to test it today lol my salt is perfect tho but yea I'm going to just hold of for a couple more weeks anyway I don't wanna kill anything and going back to before are you sure dead rock can live again I can send pics of it

And in my live rock I have crabs I have worms I have live barnacles that keep opening there mouth and I have these thing that turns the color of the rock and moves ever 30 mins and I have some coral that came with the live rock will that all die during the cycle :(

Yes, live dead rock added to a system with live rock will become live with bacteria fairly quickly. It will take some time.

If you want to speed up the process, added a small dead fish and/or some fish food. Adding a carbon source will make the bacteria grow quicker say about 15 mls of vinegar per 100 gallons of water.

Sending pics may help see what your tanks setup looks like. You will need a skimmer to export the bacteria, so get one soon or you can end up with a bacterial bloom in your tank where it turn whitish colored (the water). ;)

Ok I'll try to send one now lol the 40 pounds I didn't put in yet I will later but I'll show u how big the pieces are and I'll show u my tank :)

Hello,

So after reading close 50 pages on this thread and spending 3 months battling this ridiculous, what I think is GHA but after reading so many posts they all look the same to me, I felt compelled to do a write up.

My tank is a 30 gallon long with skimmer, no GFO, No GAC and 2 koralia nanos. After scrubbing multiple times and siphoning and getting grow back. I came across this thread and said what the hay. So I bought algaefix marine and a new nano koralia(upgrade 240 to 425 so now I have 2 425) to increase flow. I would say over 50% of my rock and sand is infested. I had my first dose last night and I have to say I'm already impressed, the stuff is already starting to clump and lift off rocks and glass to the water column, I'm using a net to gather the clumps.

Anyway, I'll keep everyone updated. Thanks for keeping this thread up for so long Highland.

To Reef Central

Good to hear tha AF seems to be working for you. ;)

I dosed my tenth dose of AlgaeFix on Friday and more or less, all of my GHA (or whatever it is) is dead. Unfortunately, so is most of my chaeto but I think it may have been due to competition from a GHA infestation in my fuge.

Now I just need to figure out how to vacuum out all of the dead GHA detritus that's nastying up the bottom of my fuge. It's on the floor so I can't siphon, and I don't think any of my pumps are appropriate to the task...

I wanted to ask a dumb question: does AlgaeFix "build up" in a tank like say, Mg, or is it consumed in the process of killing the GHA and used up? I ask because the stuff killed my entire population of red trochus snails, and I'm wondering how/when it will be safe to get more of them.

I have an algae blenny that seems to be starving! I can't even make him eat nori. Not sure why is that. I see him trying to eat from the rocks all the time, but he can't pull any algae off. Maybe I got a lemon :D. I think my algae are just holding way too strong to the rocks for him (sometimes I need to hold the rock in place if I am trying to pull too much algae. Only the urchin is able to rasp enough to remove them.

I also got an algae blenny and he also starved. If you look at my videos earlier in the thread, there was PLENTY of GHA, but apparently not the right kind?

I heard that after 24 hours it should be exhausted from the system. but I'm sure a little carbon could remove anything that could be left over.

I started today with Dose 1, will document results with pictures. Are you guys following the dosing instructions from the bottle, every 3 days?

Hello, I am new to this site but I wanted to share my experience. I have a 180g mixed reef with a refugium that has been up for about a year. I upgraded from a 75g. So, I started having a fuzzy algae growing like a blanket across my sand bed. No problem, I just siphoned it off. But within days it would return. My nitrates are zero as well as my phos, I even tested my RO/DI water. I run the outer orbit fixture which consists of 3-250w metal halides 14k phoenix, and 8 actinic t-5's, and your standard moon lights at night. I had replaced all bulbs in the beginning. Recently, I noticed a few patches of hair algae and what l assume to be dino starting, along with some orange algae in places on certain rocks. I continuously remove the algae manually as much as i can, wet skim, freq water changes, moving my powerheads, etc. My tangs, angel, snails, etc will not touch any of it. The main one I didn't care for was the one on the sand bed. So I decided to change out the sand, which I did, but only in the front as a test. Within 4 days, the fuzzy mat was back! That's when I came across this thread. Many thanks to you all for posting on here. I decided to try this stuff. First dose went in on Wednesday. Within 24hrs, the sand bed looked much better, but is not totally clean. Some algae was noticeably floating in the water column. The dino is unchanged,(from what I can see) but it is towards the back of the tank, and I will siphon it out today with my water change. Next dose is due on Saturday. I am amazed at what it has done so far on my sand. I was really about to tear this tank down. No negative affect on fish, snails, or shrimp. Some zoas (mainly the blue hornets) closed up, and my acans retracted some but no deaths. Sorry for the long post. Just wanted to share.
