Does the alge blenny consume green hair alge(it looks like grass) as part of it's normal diet? I have some blooms I would like to get rid of naturally. If not please suggest a species that will consume this type of alge. Thanks..

tony varrell,

Thank you for the excellent question. Algae Blennies will eat hair algae while it is short. Once it grows longer, blennies tend to leave it alone. Also, if there is an abundant alternative food source, they may not eat the algae. Other options to clean the hair algae are Tangs, Snails, and Hermit Crabs. You can also remove this manually by twirling the hair around a stick or unused toothbrush.
