Algea covering LR

SO when I got the rocks they where covered in a thick nasty green algea, do I need to scrub this off so that its not clogging the pores.

If:
1. For a fish only with live rock tank.....keep it and let your fish dine.
2. For a reef tank with corals.....scrub it off as well as humanly possible in ro water. This will take several days of scrubbing in a seperate container before adding to your display tank. However, it will save your whole reef and you a long term problem.

consider cooking the rock if you have time. There is probably lots of trapped organic material inside that will continue to feed the algae. Do a search on "cooking" live rock...you will not use the stove! lol

if its green cut your photo period down. and keep the nutrients down as well. run gfo for possible phosphate leaching, algae love phosphates

Okay thanks for the tips I will look up cooking the rock, I am not sure the algae is growing more since I don't really have lights on it yet. The person I got the rock from didn't really maintain the tank. I am sure I have a phosphate issue I will look at getting something to absorb it if that will help.
