Algea ID please?

In the front of the rocks, behind the two softies in the sand, looks like stalks of clovers....what is it?

and how the heck do i get rid of it?! (not my tank btw-camera is broken, but its the same stuff)

What you have is Halimeda. Its tough to get rid of just rip it out at the base and hope it doesn’t come back.

The algae is a Halimeda species, and those aren't softies. They're Euphyllia species of stony corals. If you really want to get rid of the algae, you might be able to sell it to your LFS. It's considered a desirable species and other people would be happy to have it in their tanks.

Calcium based. Extremely hard to get rid of. I would rip out what you can, but that tiny bit left behind will grow back. Place SGG or putty over the spot you removed the halimeda from to hinder its return.

people LIKE this stuff????? What the hell?? Seriously? I'm really just kind of shocked by that. I have it everywhere, well, little spots left over, and they always come back. Its really ticking me off. No other way to get it out other than ripping it out?

I liked mine. Wish it lasted Easy to harvest, didn't grow very fast. Didn't smother/kill corals....

They are the primary reef builders of tropical seas. They can be used just like chaeto or caulerpa for nutrient removal. In fact, I think this stuff is better for that. Here is a good article on the stuff:

your very lucky to have this growing in your tank, I had to pay $20 for mine, it's a Calcium based and you can use it as a calcium monitor for your aquarium.

when the calcium level is high it's get a deep green color when low it turns light green,

very low it will turns white and dissolves in the water like calcium carbonate.

so I guess if you want to kill it then you need to stop adding calcium,

Sounds like a good idea, this stuff grows like aptasia does in my sump

The Halimeda is a great indicator of how good your tank parameters are( growing and dark green) means you've got great water conditions.
