ok just to let you all know i cant get a pic of this thing. it will not come out enough to get a shot. anyways im just kinda bored staring at my tank, i see something under one of my rocks that looks like a shrimp at first. then i take a closer look with a flashlight. anyways its a grayish/ black color and has antennae like a shrimp. looked kinda like a grasshopper from what i could describe. all i can get a look at is the things face. anyone have a possible id of what it could be? pistol shrimp possibly, but not sure as this guy is a hitchiker for sure... ill keep an eye out and see if i can get a pic of this thing.

Do you ever hear a clicking or banging noise from your tank. They almost sound like a gun shot under water. Or as if some one took a small rock and struck the glass inside the tank. From your description though it could be a pistol shrimp.

Another possibility would be a mantis shrimp.

If you start to see your fishes and inverts numbers depleting then you have yourself a mantis shrimp. Otherwise it may be a pistol shrimp. By the way, a pistol shrimp doesn't have eyes so you can differenciate these two by checking that.
