I need help please !
I have a 32 gallon coral life's bio cube with a tight fitting lid. The coralife (bleh) biocube skimmer)
It's been very stable for the last few weeks and up for about 3 months and a couple of weeks.
I have been ignorantly chasing my PH, ( after researching posts.. I now see the error of my ways) and adding 8.4 and 8.3 buffer.Tank had been basically stable with me adding recommended doses of mag and calcium daily. I was using Reef fusion 1 and 2 daily in addition to buffer.
My paramaters 5 days ago:
Ca 400, Mg1320, alk 7.9 Ph 8, Sg 1.025, Po3 0, No3 10.
4 days ago:
I added some zoas and crabs. Added carbon. Already have purigen. Since I acclimated them quite a bit, I used my ro/di water with mucho pH buffer in it to replete my tank.
3 days ago. Checkd parameters: Ca 320, Mg 1260, Alk 14. Freaked out and decided not to do anything, convinced everything would die. I couldn't even look at my tank.
Yesterday, stopped playing ostrich. Did a 20 % water change with Red sea pro.
This morning parameters:
ALK 15! Ca 340 Mg 1260, Sg 1.024 pH 8.3. Everything alive.
So... I have stopped using buffer. I'm adding mag and fluval ca & reef fusion1 (ca)
Should I: lift lid? Would make any difference ?
Take carbon out? And leave purigen?
Add larger than recommended Doses of calcium and mag?

Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

RED SEA PRO mixes high in the ranges at 12.5 dkh, buffer still in the water
The effect of the buffer is only temporary, just stop it, and do your normal water changes..

your alkalinity will drop slowly on it's own. your mag. is ok but your calcium is a little low. before you add anything to increase calcium, make sure your testing properly and kit is not faulty....

Okay. Thanks.
My test kit is fairly new. I think it's accurate. Sigh. And I'm very strict with following the testing instructions.

would do a few decent sized water changes. I had my alk creep up on me from a faulty hanna checker telling me it was low. I would dose and dose only to have my alk stay at 7. come to find out the alk was really 15-16. lost a RBTA and a few acres. so I wouldn't let it stay up there long

If the animals all are doing well, I'd just stop dosing and wait, personally. The alkalinity likely will drop quickly enough on its own if the dosing is stopped. Raising the calcium and alkalinity levels won't do anything much to lower the alkalinity. You might need to dose just calcium now and then, though. It's consumed at the ratio of 20 ppm per 2.8 unit drop in dKH.
