AlK and baking soda

As I add baking soda my ALK seems to go down could this be?

You must not be keeping pace with the demand in the tank for alkalinity. Baking soda does boost alkalinity.

You might want to look into a balanced calcium and alkalinity additive method, such as a two part, limewater, a CaCO3/CO2 reactor, etc. You can make your own two part with baking soda:
