I like to keep mine around 8. So far so good.

8-10 range. from experience they've been more happy 9-11 on me. Less happy 8 and below. Just my experience though.

Ditto. I was recently asked what KH I kept my system at to get wicked vivid Purple Deaths - I generally run 10-10.5 or so. They seem happiest that way.

BRS 2 part if you have a small tank, easy to dose...

I do 2 part to control my pH and Calcium. BRS cheapest to buy from.
