because of alot of reading- mostly here- I keep my ALK close to 11dKH. My clams seem to do best at this. I do not want to start arguements. Just information for all! What do you all keep yours at?

According to Tullock's Natural Reef Aquariums, pg 127...the alk of natural seawater is around 2.0-2.5 meq/L converted to dkh, this is around 6-7. He goes on to say that it is generally recommended that the marine aquarium be maintained at a higher level that that of natural seawater, between 7 and 8. He says that higher alk offsets the accumulation of acids found in closed system aquariums due to carbon dioxide from respiration, nitric acid from biological filtration and organic acids form metabolic waste.
