i know this isnt the most scientific method but i tested the pump and found it took 4 seconds to fill a cup - if the pump is only kicking on for 1-2 seconds at a time it's only adding half cup or less to the sump. there should be roughly 64 cups worth of volume in my sump if it holds 4 gallons of water. 1 full cup would be about 1.5% of the sump so it appears that a half cup would easily be less than 1%. sweet!

now feel free to tell me where I screwed up the math bc I'm sure I did! lol

How do you know it is only on for 1-2 seconds in normal use? Is it in place and running of off a float switch like that now?

yes it is in place running off a float switch. I've heard it come on before while I was watching the tank and it couldnt have been more than 2 seconds but that's just an estimate.
