Most recent test results for alk is 9. pH is between 8.1 and 8.2. I forgot my water for last nights meeting so still have no idea what my cal and mag are.

Ok so as part of my Valentines I received my alk test. Just tested and my alk is at 4. pH is 8.1

4 meg/l= 11.2 dkh.

Yes, alkalinity values in aquarium should be maitained between 2.5-4 meq/L or 7-11 dKH or 125-200 ppm CaCO3 equivalents. Your tank alk value is 11.2 dkh, little bit on high side, but nothing to worry about

I figured it was ok because like I was telling Lynn at the meeting. I looked at my tank for the first time since it has been running and everything looked so happy and was WIDE open. It was beautiful

We are used to reading Alk as a measurement of dKh and I try to keep mine about 9 b/c I keep softies, lps, and sps.
Your alkalinity will drop on its own, but I suggest you continue to test so you can monitor the rate - it will be helpful when you try to determine how frequently you need to dose to keep it up.

Steph, I believe that we are finished with our cycle. Mike is going to stop by soon and test cal and mag for us since we do not have those test kits. I know that by looking at my tank, everything looks wide open and so very happy and that makes me happy
