I hate to be a fly in the ointment, but I was a bit disappointed.
Since the current series of Ohio swaps got started at Stan's house in 2001, I've been to 8 swaps and this is the first time I've come away feeling disappointed. I drove an hour and 45 minutes to conduct 7 prearranged buy/sell/trade transactions. Although I came away with some nice things, I did not get the top three items I came to buy. All three were arranged in advance via Fragswapper (great tool BTW) and everyone I had deals with was told I'd arrive about 2 PM. I got there at 1:45 PM.
Of those three corals, one trader apparently never came to the swap as others who know him didn't see him either and the other two sold my corals out from under me. Now it's hard to know what might have come up for the one who did not come - things happen - but a word about it afterward would have been nice. The other two simply sold the corals to other people before I got there. One was gracious enough to offer to break up a nice large colony he had of something similar to get me frags. I did appreciate that offer but didn't feel right to make him do that. The other was just a "sorry, I already sold that".
I guess it's similar to how some people backed out of Fragswapper deals at the last minute, but at least there you know it's coming.
In all eight swaps I've attended I have had pre-arranged deals. In every case, the promised corals have been set aside in a container with the recipient's name and not even removed from my cooler except to hand over to the new owner. It's how I do things and I expect no less from other people. Now you run the risk of the other person not showing up or changing their mind and not wanting it and being stuck with it at the end of the day. If it happens you just deal with it and in the future don't swap with that person again. No one wants to be stuck with things they have to bring back home, but, in the end, our individual integrity is all that will keep events such as this functioning to everyone's benefit.
