today i went to my pet shop, and i saw the coolest lookin pair of clownfish. they were labeled as allardi clownfish, and i checked on the web, and they look jsut like one. are these a rare clownfish or common, the site i read said they were in short supply, so im wondering if for 52.00 did i get a fair price for a pair?? ive never seen these before. whast do you think. pics to follow later tongiht

I'd happily pay that much for a pair.

Be sure to QT them well and watch for brook. I'd also recommend picking up a bottle of formalin and be ready to treat them immediately if they start showing any signs of illness. Waiting even a day can almost certainly doom them if they do come down with brook. VERY MANY wild caught clowns carry brook and will get sick in QT.

ok, thanx for the information. they are under quartine as we speek, but look GREAT. they have noraml breathing rates, no sings of any sickness and are already eating. i think they sare gonna be jsut fine. how long would you wait to put them in your main tank, only fish in my main tank right now are a yellowwatchman goby, and a lawnmower blenny. thanx a lot. oo ya are allardi clownfish a rarer clown,. or pretty common?? if there rare, i was thinkin about raising the fry when they begin to mte, but well see. thanx again. my parents went on a vacation and took the camera with them so i will have pictures up here my sun. ( im only 15, and my tank gets most of the money i make so i dont hae my own camera) but i found this picture on the web and this clown looks almost identical ( mine have mabey a bit more black) to the clowns i got.

damn. you're 15, your folks are out of town and you're on reefcentral instead of causing trouble? I hope your parents know what a good kid you are. :)

I'd probably only QT for 3 weeks or so. I'd also do a fw dip on the way to the display.\

edit: oh yeah, allardi are rare in the trade but, like all clownfish are common in their endemic range.

alright, thanx for the information. im gonna get a real picture of them but heres the picture i found on the web.

sweet. depending on how long the LFS had them watch them close. Even good looking fish can quickly go south around day 2 or 3. the last pair f chrysopterus I got looked real good the first 2 days I had them and then the brook set in. get your meds ready just in case.
BTW you need to get off the computer and go find some beer!
no parents and you are home talking about fish on a Friday night.
What's your phone #? I want to talk to your parents when they get back

lol, well i have had my fun already, took a bunch of friends and we took my parents pontoon down to the river and spent the day ona sand bar, then went to a party at a friends hosue lol, but i had to leave earlyer cause the guy i know at the lfs called me to tell me they got there shipment in. these clowns were not ever at the lfs, so im hoppin they will be ok. i picked up formalin, and have a fresh water bathe all ready if need be. anything else you reccomend??

don't keep the fw bath up. just set it up if/when you need it. nitrates can build up and oxygen can drop in water sitting around.

btw: glad to hear you had some fun too. I won't tell, but be safe. You'd hate to leave those allardi orphaned!

maracyn2, this stuff saves lives. I would go ahead and treat even if they arent showing signs of illness or stress. I would also add some copper at the same time. they will undoubtedly have some parasites that will need to be removed.

yeah I'm getting white stringy poop clinging onto a recently acquired CB ocellaris. If he doesn't start eating more vigorously it's maracyn for him too.

dann... my baby had internal parasites and leebeca gave me the treatment regimine.. but maracyn 2 is not included. piprazine for one kind of parasite, maroxadole for another kind. but piprazine was the more common and she recommended it first. let me know if you want the thread :)
(sorry to highjack)

I think its great you have a reef at 15 and take care of it! I dident even want to take care of myself at 15 lol allardi are awsome fish I love the ends of their tails

lol, yes there tails are what got me to buy them. i live way up north here in bismarck north dakota, and so as of now, am the only one ( at least out of all our club members) to own oine of these guys. so if i was to raise some fry, would thee have a lot higher demand than lets say percs or occ.?? thanx

higher demand? doubt it
higher price? most certainly

most people will look at them and say clarkii without a 2nd thought. everyone mostly wants that immediatly identifiable Nemo(I almost wish that movie never came out).

even having a maroon, anyone that looks in my tank says
'oh a nemo'

Ive been meaning to watch it agian now that i have a reef just for giggles.
A guy that works for an lfs here told his 5 yr old niece that nemos daddy would really turn into nemos mommy

that caused alot of questions for the parents lol

here they are, im alittle worried about the male, he is breatahing rally hard, and wouldnt eat this morrning ( wetn after food, but spit it back out) what should i do???
