allelopathy reduction--carbon vs ozone

If one had to choose, what would be a more effective method of removing the toxic substances that corals produce to compete with one another.............carbon or ozone with an efficient protein skimmer? (I realize I may be over-simplifying the matter esp. with so little we know about such substances but general opinions are more than welcome.)

I'm not sure. Each will work to some extent, and each has other benefits as well. Carbon is simpler to use. I agree that both is better than either alone, and I generally suggest that folks use carbon when using ozone anyway.

The problem is that I do not know what the chemical structure of all the potential toxic campounds are. Some compounds are more prone to ozone attack than others. Same for carbon: some are more prone to binding than others.

Probably some, and the other way around as well. Overall, I expect carbon can remove far more total organic material than a polyfilter.
