allergic reaction to coral

I was doing a water change 4 days ago. I scrubbed some algae off of the rocks, then decide to frag some corals. I made some frags of my Mummy Eye chalice. I also scraped some algae off of my zoas. The next day I began having itchy bumbs, all over my body (mostly neck, back, chest, and stomach). These things itch and hurt! I have about 100 bumps over my entire body. I've been taking steroids for 3 days, and benadryl every 2 hours. When I miss my benadryl dose....BAM they come back (bumps). I have never had this happen before. I have never used gloves to frag before. I have been stung by my anenome (on my forearm) and obtained a rash before, but nothing like this. I just want to warn my friends here... be careful. This is horrible. I will be using gloves from now on.

I have heard that zoas can release some nasty toxins when you're fragging them. I have never experienced anything like this, but I wish you a swift recovery!

It sounds like palytoxin poisoning. Please do a search on it at RC or Google. It is very potent stuff. If the symptoms do not go away soon, I would go to the ER or see a doctor asap.

Let me know if you need anything Nick, like a box of benedryl for christmas?? hehe jk. Wish you a speedy recovery and for reals, let me know if you need anything. I'm so close.

Ha Jay, been eating benadryl like candy. Walking around drunk off benadryl is a new thing. Oh, and it may just be the curse of the Mummy. I was fragging the original and emerald mummy eye. Also scraped some algae off of a couple ZOA's. But, never again! I'm still paying for my mistake. Starting to get better though. Thanks guys for the concern. Merry Christmas.
