Almost all my coral died while I was on vacation!

I don't know what went wrong but when I got back I had a dark red stringy algae on all my corals. All the corals were just white skeletons when I blew the algae off. I did a 60% water change and the remaining living coral still looks bad. I was only gone for 9 days! This just frustrates me, I might sell everything and take a break.

Wow! That stinks, so sorrry. Too bad we can't get insurance policies on corals. Rather than sell everything why not just tear down and keep your equipment for when you can't stand it anymore and "have" to rebuild.

My thoughts are: Do not do anything for a little while. Let the loss hurt for a little longer before selling all you have. It will not be any better in a week or two, but your desire to sell everything may not be as great. If you have already sold it, then, well, you know what I mean. Most folks say do nothing drastic after a loss.

Hey James, sorry to hear man, its sucks to lose coral and it always makes me want to tear it all down to. I agree you should wait alittle while and make sure. you always have a great love for the hobby and you always want bigger and better so you wont probly be happy downsizing for long! Get the tank running again, clean it up and make a trip down here. Ill send you home with a cooler of coral to get you started again.

I tried that but the wife wasn't buying into the "I need better equipment deal" She told me I need to get better with the equipment that I have. I hate it when she's right which is more than I care to admit.
